A recent poll from CBS News shows that independent voters in Georgia are breaking for Trump.
"This is a group who went for Biden in 2020 by 9 points. For Georgia independents, the economy was their top issue. Note: these numbers may change as additional exit poll results come in through the night," CBS wrote on the social media platform, X.
CNN has also reported that Trump has a lead with independent voters in Georgia.
CBS rated the state of Georgia as a tossup while votes continued to trickle in.
"We have about 33% of the vote in," CBS reporter Major Garrett said Tuesday evening.
He explained that they estimate it is roughly tied 50% to 50% between Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris and Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump.
"Let's talk about where the vote is yet to come in," Garrett said. "Of the 67% that we still need to wait for, you see most of it is [in] generally blue metro Atlanta and some other bluish parts of the state. What's interesting about the trend lines currently ... when you see southeast Georgia you see a lot of red."
