Florida Gov. DeSantis beats Trump in 2024 presidential straw poll
Voters also almost unanimously voted in favor of continuing Trump's policies in the future.
Florida Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis beat former President Trump in a recent straw poll about potential 2024 presidential candidates.
The poll was conducted Saturday at the Western Conservative Summit in Denver.
Attendees were asked to vote for all the potential candidates of which they approved, out of a 31-person field that included Trump, DeSantis, GOP Sen. Ted Cruz, of Texas, and Tim Scott, of South Carolina, according to WPTV, a local NBC affiliate.
The straw poll found that 74% of participants favored DeSantis, narrowly edging out Trump, who received 71%.
Cruz finished in third place with 42%, former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo in fourth with 39%, with Scott earning 36% of Former Vice President Mike Pence received 22% of the vote in the straw poll.
In the same poll, respondents overwhelmingly agreed that whoever should run for the Republican nomination in 2024 should continue Trump's policies. Ninety-four percent said they approved of continuing the former president's policies in the future, according to the Citizen Free Press.
