Polls have largely shown Trump only narrowly leading Harris nationally, as enthusiasm mounts around the vice president now that President Joe Biden has withdrawn from the race. But the gap is smaller than experts predicted.
A series of Fox News polls found Trump and Harris tied in Pennsylvania and Michigan, but she trailed him by one point in Wisconsin. The pair had 49% of support each in both Pennsylvania and Michigan, but Trump had 50% of the vote in Wisconsin, while Harris still had 49%.
Biden had trailed Trump by three percentage points in Michigan when the same polls were conducted in April. But he tied Trump with 48% of the vote in Wisconsin and Pennslyvania, according to The Hill.
The Fox polls were conducted between July 22 and 24, and polled 1,046 registered voters in Wisconsin, 1,034 registered voters in Pennsylvania and 1,012 registered voters in Michigan. They each had a margin of error of plus or minus three percentage points.
The national poll conducted by the Wall Street Journal found that Trump still led Harris nationally by two percentage points, with the former president garnering 49% in the poll, and Harris polling at 47%.
The same poll also showed Harris' favorability rise from 35% to 46% among registered voters this month. Trump has a 47% favorability rating, while Biden's is at 39%.
The national survey was conducted from July 23 through July 25, and polled 1,000 registered voters. The poll's margin of error was plus or minus 3.1%.
