Majority of Americans believe the US spends too much money on foreign aid: Poll
The Rasmussen Reports poll, which was conducted April 16-18, found that 57% of the respondents believe the aid packages provide too much money to other countries
More than half of respondents in a poll released Wednesday believe that the United States is spending too much money on helping other countries with their conflicts.
Congress recently approved a new $95 billion foreign aid package that sends billions of dollars to Ukraine, Israel, and Taiwan. The package was passed by the House over the weekend, approved by the Senate late Tuesday night, and signed by President Joe Biden on Wednesday.
The Rasmussen Reports poll, which was conducted April 16-18, found that 57% of the respondents believe the aid packages provide too much money to other countries. A mere 10% believe the funding is not enough, and 23% believe the funding is the right amount.
When asked more directly on the funding for Israel, 49% of the pool of likely U.S. voters said the funds were either right or too low. The new package included $26 billion for Israel amid its war with Hamas. Just 47% of respondents felt the new $61 billion for Ukraine was “too much,” while 20% said they wanted more money for Ukraine, and 24% said the money was just right.
The poll surveyed 1,126 likely U.S. voters nationwide, and has a margin of error of +/- 3 percentage points.
