Russian President Vladimir Putin wants to bring the war in Ukraine to a "peaceful conclusion" but Russia must achieve its goals, said Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov on state television in a video clip posted on Sunday.

"President Putin has repeatedly spoken of his desire to bring the Ukrainian settlement to a peaceful conclusion as soon as possible. This is a long process, it requires effort, and it is not easy," Peskov said, according to Reuters.

"The main thing for us is to achieve our goals. Our goals are clear," Peskov added.

Trump recently said he would give Russia a 50-day deadline to agree to a ceasefire or face more sanctions.

He announced the U.S. was going to send Patriot missile defense systems to Ukraine.
