Nearly four-in-10 Americans believe humanity 'living in the end times,' poll
The belief is strongly correlated with education level and religion.
Nearly four-in-10 U.S. adults say they believe humanity is "living in the end times," including the majority of protestants and black Americans, according to a new poll.
Of the 39% of the adults believe they are "living in the end times," and 58% said they do not believe the end is near, according to a Pew Research poll released last week.
The belief that humans are living in "end times" is correlated with religion. The poll showed that 76% of historically black protestants believe the end is near, making them the largest group to think so.
The majority of protestants, 55%, believe they are "living in the end times."
At 9%, Atheists are the least likely group to believe the end is near for humanity, the poll showed.
Broken down by race, black Americans overall are far more likely to believe humans are living in "end times," with 68% agreeing so compared to 34% of white Americans.
The higher the education level, the less likely a respondent will believe the end is near. While 27% of college graduates believe humanity is in end times, 49% of Americans with a high school diploma or less education believe the same.
The poll, which has a margin of error of 1.6%, was conducted as part of a larger Pew study on religion with 10,156 U.S. adults from April 11-17, 2022.
