Republicans trusted more on education: poll
One quarter of all independent voters polled said they believe Democrats are the better party on education.
More voters trust Republicans to deal with education issues over Democrats, and most U.S. voters believe that public school quality is getting worse, according to a Rasmussen poll released Wednesday.
Forty-three percent of likely U.S. voters polled said they trust Republicans to handle education issues, compared to 36% who said they trusted Democrats more, the survey showed.
As a vital voting group ahead of the midterm elections this fall, a plurality of independents said they believe the GOP is better than Democrats on education.
One quarter (25%) of all independent voters polled said they believe Democrats are the better party on education and one quarter (25%) said that both parties were about the same on the issue. However, 42% of independent respondents said Republicans were better on education.
The poll comes several months after Gov. Glenn Youngkin, R-Va., was elected governor. His campaign focused heavily on problems in Virginia schools, including mask mandates and Critical Race Theory.
Overall, most of the public has a negative view of public school education, according to the poll.
Nearly three out of five likely U.S. voters (58%) told Rasmussen that they believe that the quality of public schools in America is worse. Just 13% said they think school are getting better, while 25% said it is staying the same.
A poll from Selzer & Co. reported on by The Hill Wednesday showed even more stark numbers. Nearly 2 in 3 voters polled said that public schools are on the wrong track.
