Sinema's struggle: Arizona independent trails both Gallego and Lake in election poll
Sinema has yet to officially announce her reelection campaign.
Arizona independent Sen. Kyrsten Sinema's 2024 reelection campaign may be facing a major obstacle after a new poll revealed that she trails behind both of her likely opponents.
With likely Democratic nominee Rep. Ruben Gallego receiving 36% and likely Republican nominee Kari Lake at 35%, Sinema is at 17% while 12% of voters are still undecided, according to a poll conducted by Democratic firm Public Policy Polling, The Messenger reported Wednesday. Replace Sinema PAC, a group dedicated to getting the incumbent senator out of office, commissioned the poll.
After leaving the Democratic Party in December 2022, Sinema filed the paperwork to run for reelection, but she has yet to officially announce her 2024 campaign.
"Poll after poll, including this one, shows that Kyrsten Sinema continues to be so unpopular in her home state that she risks throwing Arizona’s seat to an extremist Republican like Kari Lake, jeopardizing Democrats' majority in the Senate," Replace Sinema spokesperson Sacha Haworth said.
The poll was conducted Jan. 5-6 with 590 Arizona voters and it has a 4% margin of error.
