Trump leads Biden by 15 points in swing state Iowa: Poll
Biden is not helped by the fact that more than three-fourths of Iowans think the country is headed in the wrong direction.
Former President Donald Trump leads President Joe Biden in the swing state of Iowa by 15% if the election were held now, which is nearly double the margin that Trump won Iowa in 2020, according to a new poll.
With 48% for Trump, 33% for Biden and 15% for "someone else," Trump is significantly ahead in the race, according to a Des Moines Register/Mediacom Iowa Poll released Tuesday. Additionally, 1% of respondents said they do not plan on voting while 2% said they are unsure.
Trump beat Biden in Iowa in 2020 by 53.2% to 45%, per Politico, so the latest poll indicates that Trump has a significant advantage in the state heading into the 2024 election.
Biden is not helped by the fact that he has a low approval rating in Iowa or that more than three-fourths of Iowans think the country is headed in the wrong direction.
Biden's approval rating in Iowa is 29%, while his disapproval rating is 69%, the poll also showed. Additionally, 79% of respondents said the U.S. is on the wrong track.
This poll was conducted Feb. 25-28 with 640 likely voters and it has a 3.9% margin of error.
The results come as Trump and Biden appear likely to secure nominations of their respective parties after Super Tuesday, putting them on the path to a 2020 rematch.
