Trump leads Biden by 7 points in swing state of Michigan: Poll
Trump's support is at 42% compared to Biden's 35%.
Former President Donald Trump is seven points ahead of President Joe Biden in the vital swing state of Michigan, according to a 2024 presidential election poll released Wednesday, 13 months before Election Day.
While 42% of likely Michigan voters either plan to vote for Trump or leaned in favor of supporting the former president, 35% said they planned to cast their ballots for Biden or leaned in favor of him, according to a poll commissioned by the Lansing-based consulting firm Marketing Resource Group, "The Detroit News" reported Wednesday.
Meanwhile, about 20% of people polled said they planned to vote for someone else and 3% declined to pick a candidate. In order to maintain his lead on Biden, Trump will have to woo the third-party voters.
Trump became the first Republican presidential candidate to win Michigan in nearly three decades in 2016 when he beat Democrat Hillary Clinton, but he lost the state to Biden in 2020.
Trump has been gaining on Biden in Michigan. An Emerson College poll in August showed he had 43% to Biden's 41%, while in July, Biden led Trump by two percentage points in the state.
The latest poll was conducted from Oct. 2-8 with about 600 likely Michigan voters and it has a 4% margin of error.
