Trump allies face felony charges in Michigan over alleged voting machine 'testing'
DePerno was charged with undue possession of a voting machine and conspiracy while Rendon was charged with conspiracy to commit undue possession of a voting machine and false pretenses.
A pair of former President Donald Trump's allies in Michigan face felony charges for allegedly accessing and tampering with voting machines following the 2020 presidential election.
Matthew DePerno and Daire Rendon were arraigned on Tuesday, the Associated Press reported. DePerno was charged with undue possession of a voting machine and conspiracy while Rendon was charged with conspiracy to commit undue possession of a voting machine and false pretenses.
Documents from Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel’s office indicated that five vote tabulators were removed from three counties and transported to a hotel room, which investigators determined had been subjected to "tests."
DePerno challenged Nessel in the 2022 elections, leading her to appoint a special prosecutor to handle the case.
The pair's efforts appear to stem from former President Donald Trump's claims that election fraud influenced the outcome of the 2020 presidential election by swinging key battleground states, such as Michigan, in President Joe Biden's favor.
