Trump-backed Bernie Moreno leads Ohio Senate primary: poll
Moreno is facing a competitive primary against state Sen. Matt Dolan and Ohio Secretary of State Frank LaRose, though he has managed to earn backing from former President Donald Trump and other prominent Republican leaders.
Businessman Bernie Moreno appears poised to claim the Republican Senate nomination in Ohio as he holds a commanding lead over his primary opponents heading into the Tuesday contest.
Moreno is facing a competitive primary against state Sen. Matt Dolan and Ohio Secretary of State Frank LaRose, though he has managed to earn backing from former President Donald Trump and other prominent Republican leaders.
In the latest Emerson College survey, Moreno led the pack with 38% support, while Dolan placed second with 29%, and LaRose trailed with 12%. A further 21% were undecided. The results mark a significant shift since the prior iteration of the survey in early March in which Moreno earned 23% to Dolan's 26% and LaRose's 16%.
The race narrows somewhat when undecided voters were asked to choose a candidate. In that scenario, Moreno led with 44% to Dolan's 40% and LaRose's 16%.
Conducted March 17-18, the survey questioned 450 likely Republican primary voters and has a credibility interval of +/- 4.6%.
Trump endorsed Moreno in December of last year, saying "Bernie will always stand up to the Fascist 'nut jobs' and the spineless RINOS in order to fight the corrupt Deep State that is destroying our Country."
