Trump blames 'Democrat Shutdown' for reducing GDP growth

President Donald Trump on Friday blamed the recent government shutdown for ostensibly lowering GDP growth.
"The Democrat Shutdown cost the U.S.A. at least two points in GDP. That’s why they are doing it, in mini form, again. No Shutdowns! Also, LOWER INTEREST RATES. “Two Late” Powell is the WORST!!!" he posted on Truth Social.
The government entered the longest shutdown in its history as Democrats fought to reverse healthcare funding changes in the One Big Beautiful Bill Act.
The government is technically in a partial shutdown as of press time due to a negotiating standoff between the administration and congressional Democrats over immigration enforcement.
GDP growth for the final quarter of 2025 came in at 1.4%, according to the Bureau of Economic Analysis.
