In the wake of a fourth indictment, former President Donald Trump has staked a significant lead over President Joe Biden should the pair face off for the White House in 2024.

Trump claimed the support of 43% of registered voters in the latest Premise poll, compared to Biden's 38%. The survey further shows that Biden would beat Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, 37% to 34%.

The primary contest is Trump's race to lose, with 60% of voters backing him, compared to 16% who preferred DeSantis, 6% who backed tech mogul Vivek Ramaswamy, and 4% who supported former Vice President Mike Pence.

Conducted Aug. 17-21, the survey questioned 1,240 registered voters. The survey period entirely follows Trump's indictment in Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis's Georgia election probe.

Polls have generally shown Trump consolidating support in the Republican primary amid the indictments and he enjoys a 41.3% average lead, according to RealClearPolitics. In the general, President Joe Biden enjoys a 0.5% average lead. The RCP Trump v. Biden average does not include the Premise survey.
