President Donald Trump on Friday doubled down on his willingness to use the Insurrection Act to quell anti-Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) demonstrations in Minneapolis, Minn., if state officials failed to contain violent agitators.

"If I needed it, I'd use it. It's very powerful," he told reporters. Trump previously warned Minnesota that he would invoke the 1807 law, which permits the president to use the military to disperse agitators if he determines that an insurrection or similar disturbance is necessary to enforce the law.

Border Czar Tom Homan was set to meet with Trump on Friday to discuss the possibility of invoking the act, though the timeframe for that conversation remains unclear. Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem has also confirmed discussing the prospect with Trump.

Minneapolis, Minn., has become a hotspot for ICE operations in the wake of revelations of large-scale public fraud linked to the Somali expat community in the area. The Trump administration has ended temporary protected status (TPS) for Somalis and Trump himself has threatened to denaturalize convicted fraudsters.
