Trump, Republican National Committee raked in a combined $65.6 million last month

Former President Donald Trump and the Republican National Committee raised a considerable sum over the past month that could serve to bolster his electoral challenges against President Joe Biden, who is expected to enjoy an advantage in funds throughout most of the contest.

"Our campaign, working together with the RNC, has been steadily ramping up our fundraising efforts, and our March numbers are a testament to the overwhelming support for President Trump by voters all across the spectrum," said Trump campaign co-manager Susie Wiles, according to Politico.

Combined, the RNC and Trump campaign managed to bring in $65.6 million. The figures represent some of the first fundraising numbers since the RNC installed Trump's preferred options to lead the party's chief organizational body. Trump and the RNC had $93.1 million in cash on hand at the end of March.

Last month, the RNC installed former North Carolina GOP Chairman Michael Whatley as its chairman, naming the former president's daughter-in-law, Lara Trump, as co-chairwoman. Chris LaCivita also took over as the RNC's chief of staff. The organization has since set a joint fundraising account with the campaign.

The haul is likely good news for Trump, whose own advisers have admitted they will be unlikely to match Biden's fundraising numbers.

"We're never gonna be able to raise dollar-for-dollar with Biden," one unnamed campaign adviser said last week on a reporter call. 

The Biden campaign, however, has not yet announced its March fundraising numbers.
