Trump slams Ohio Gov. DeWine for vetoing bill banning gender-affirming care for minors
DeWine said that he agreed with certain parts of the bill, but could not sign it as it is currently written. Trump called on the GOP-led Ohio legislature to override DeWine's veto.
Former President Donald Trump blasted Ohio GOP Gov. Mike DeWine on Saturday for vetoing a bill that would have banned gender-affirming care for minors and kept transgender athletes out of women's sports.
"DeWine has fallen to the Radical Left," Trump wrote on his TRUTH Social platform. "No wonder he gets loudly booed in Ohio every time I introduce him at Rallies, but I won’t be introducing him any more. I’m finished with this 'stiff.' What was he thinking? The bill would have stopped child mutilation, and prevented men from playing in women’s sports."
Trump called on the GOP-led Ohio legislature to override DeWine's veto.
"Legislature will hopefully overturn. Do it FAST!!!" the former president wrote.
DeWine said on Friday his reasoning for vetoing the bill was due to conversations with physicians who provide gender-affirming care and parents of impacted families.
"I've also listened to youth and parents. Parents who have told me if not for this treatment, their child would be dead," DeWine said during a press conference.
DeWine said that he agreed with certain parts of the bill, but could not sign it as it is currently written.
"I invite members of the general assembly to meet with us to collaborate, to work with us," the governor said.
