Trump thanks minority voters in inaugural address: 'I have heard your voices'
Trump gained significant ground with black and Hispanic voters compared to past Republican presidential candidates, flipping many majority-Hispanic areas along the southern border, even as he campaigned on mass deportations.
President Donald Trump on Monday thanked minority voters for their support during the 2024 presidential election and vowed to work with them to advance the nation.
Trump made the remarks just after taking the oath of office to become the 47th president of the United States.
"We had a powerful win in all seven swing states and the popular vote," he said in his inaugural address. "We won by millions of people. To the black and Hispanic communities, I want to thank you for the tremendous outpouring of love and trust that you have shown me with your vote."
"We set records, and I will not forget it. I've heard your voices in the campaign, and I look forward to working with you in the years to come," he added. "Today is Martin Luther King Day, and his honor, this will be a great honor, but in his honor, we will strive together to make his dream a reality."
