Trump warns senators who oppose SAVE America Act face 'guaranteed loss'
He further indicated he would not endorse any candidate who opposed the bill.
President Donald Trump on Tuesday warned that Republicans who vote against the SAVE America Act would face a "guaranteed loss" when they face reelection.
His remarks come as Senate Republicans are expected to begin debate on the bill, albeit without invoking the talking filibuster to overcome Democratic opposition.
"The Save America Act is one of the most IMPORTANT & CONSEQUENTIAL pieces of legislation in the history of Congress, and America itself," Trump posted on Truth Social.
"NO MORE RIGGED ELECTIONS! Voter I.D., Proof of Citizenship, No Rigged Mail-In Voting (We are the only Country in the World that allows this!), No Men in Women’s Sports, No Transgender MUTILIZATION of our Children. 90% to 99% ISSUES ALL!" he went on. "Only sick, demented, or deranged people in the House or Senate could vote against THE SAVE AMERICA ACT. If they do, each one of these points, separately, will be used against the user in his/her political campaign for office - A guaranteed loss!"
He further indicated he would not endorse any candidate who opposed the bill, a possible nod to Sen. John Cornyn, R-Texas, who has struggled to lock up Trump's endorsement in the Texas Senate primary. Cornyn was forced into a runoff against Attorney General Ken Paxton, who in turn, offered to drop out if Cornyn could get the SAVE America Act passed.
Cornyn has stated that he supports the bill, but has not managed to flip other senators to do so likewise, nor has he been able to rally support for the talking filibuster.
