Tucker Carlson slams DeSantis's online backers: 'the nastiest, the stupidest'

Carlson then accused DeSantis of bowing to pressure from donor Ken Griffin and flipping his position to support further aid to Ukraine.

Former Fox News host Tucker Carlson this week excoriated Florida GOP Gov. Ron DeSantis's online supporters and derided the governor for changing his position on the Ukraine War, allegedly due to the influence of a single donor.

"The people who represent him online are the nastiest, the stupidest, and the most zero-sum people I've ever seen in my life," Carlson said in an exchange with podcaster Tim Pool at the AmFest gathering hosted by Turning Point USA.

Carlson then accused DeSantis of bowing to pressure from donor Ken Griffin and flipping his position to support further aid to Ukraine.

"His donor, Ken Griffin, told him to change his view on Ukraine from 'its a regional conflict we shouldn't get involved in' to 'it's a super important thing, we should send more money,'" Carlson said. "One donor got him to change his view and all these so-called conservatives are supporting that like it's the most important thing. I feel like, who are these people? What is their problem and what is going on with them?"

The former Fox host clarified that he liked DeSantis personally and as a governor, a point with which Pool agreed.

Carlson's comments, however, come amid mounting speculation that he could fill the role of Trump's vice president, a prospect about which Carlson has largely expressed reservations.
