VA Gov. Youngkin orders review of AP African American studies amid College Board row with Florida
The state review follows a Florida Board of Education determination that the course was "filled with Critical Race Theory and other obvious violations of Florida law."
Virginia Republican Gov. Glenn Youngkin has asked his administration to review the AP African American studies course after Florida rejected the course on grounds it violated state laws barring the teaching of Critical Race Theory and certain sexual topics.
Youngkin spokesman Macaulay Porter told The Hill that "[a]fter numerous reports about draft course content, the governor asked the Education Secretariat to review the College Board's proposed AP African American Studies course as it pertains to Executive Order 1."
The Virginia governor campaigned heavily on restoring parental rights in education and removing certain divisive political concepts from the state curriculum. Executive Order 1 bars the teaching of Critical Race Theory.

The College Board, which oversees AP courses, has since revised the course, dropping language involving "queer" black Americans, and both CRT and "black feminism" materials.
