Vice President JD Vance on Thursday condemned Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer for suggesting that a protracted shutdown would benefit Democrats.

Vance responded to Schumer saying "every day gets better for us" with respect to the shutdown.

"Better for Schumer. Worse for Americans.  

What a vile sentiment from an alleged leader in our country," the vice president said.

The government entered a shutdown last week after the Senate failed to approve a continuing resolution to fund the government. Republicans have characterized the shutdown as unnecessary and insisted that Democrats seek to fund health care for illegal aliens.

Democrats, meanwhile, have said that they are working to lower healthcare costs for all Americans.
