Vance team fumes at AP over out of context 'fact of life' quote on school shootings
Speaking at an event in Arizona on Thursday, Vance lamented that school shootings occurred and called for tougher security at schools to address them.
GOP vice presidential nominee JD Vance's team is livid with the Associated Press over its use of a quote out of context that seemed to show the Ohio senator dismissing school shootings.
Speaking at an event in Arizona on Thursday, Vance lamented that school shootings occurred and called for tougher security at schools to address them.
“I don’t like that this is a fact of life,” he said, according to Fox News. "But if you are a psycho and you want to make headlines, you’ve realized that our schools are soft targets and we have got to bolster security at our schools."
But the AP ran an X post stating "JD Vance says school shootings are a ‘fact of life,’ calls for better security."
"This is yet another case of the fake news media brazenly lying about a Republican politician," Vance spokesperson William Martin told the outlet. "Senator Vance said exactly the opposite of what the Associated Press claimed. It should come as no surprise that the AP lost any and all credibility it had years ago, because they will lie about literally anything in order prop up the Democrats."
The AP has since deleted the post and replaced it with a new one reading "JD Vance says he laments that school shootings are a 'fact of life' and says the U.S. needs to harden security to prevent more carnage like the shooting this week that left four dead in Georgia."
A comment the AP added to the new post further reads that "[t]his post replaces an earlier post that was deleted to add context to the partial quote from Vance."
