Virginia Gov. Youngkin to join Trump at Virginia Beach rally: Report
President Joe Bien currently maintains a 2.2% lead over Trump in Virginia.
Virginia GOP Gov. Glenn Youngkin will appear with former President Donald Trump at a rally in Virginia Beach next week as polling shows the Old Dominion in play for the November election, The Hill reported, citing "a source."
The campaign has not formally announced the rally and a venue remains undetermined. CBS News first reported on the event.
President Joe Bien currently maintains a 2.2% lead over Trump in Virginia, according to the RealClearPolitics polling average. Included in that metric are a Roanoke College poll from May and a Fox News poll from June showing the pair tied. Virginia has not backed a Republican for president since 2004.
Youngkin's reported appearance would mark the first time in the 2024 election cycle that he has publicly appeared with Trump, though he previously met him at the former president's golf club in the state.
The governor's 2021 upset win marked the first time a Republican won the governor's mansion since Bob McDonnell won the post in 2009. The state boasts 13 electoral votes and could prove pivotal in helping Trump reach the necessary 270 to reclaim the White House.
