Walker, Warnock in dead heat as voters shrug off abortion allegations

Georgia Republican Senate candidate Herschel Walker has caught back up with his Democratic rival, Sen. Raphael Warnock, following a strong performance in last week's debate.

The Landmark Communications poll showed Warnock with 46.1% support among registered voters to Walkers 46.0%, a statistical tie given the surveys +/- 4.4% margin of error.

Walker and Warnock squared off in a Friday debate in which the pair fielded questions on issues ranging from abortion to the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

Respondents narrowly indicated that Walker had won the debate, with 34.4% handing him the victory, compared to 33% for Warnock. A further 32.6% were undecided. Prior to the debate, Walker had attempted to temper expectations of his performance, saying that he is "not smart," though he promised he would "hold his own."

During the debate, Walker flatly denied the bombshell allegations that he had paid for a girlfriend to have an abortion. The Landmark survey did not directly ask respondents about the controversy, though a tight race demonstrates improvement for Walker in the aftermath of the alleged scandal.

Following the revelations, the former football star briefly dipped in the polls, where before he had enjoyed a narrow lead over Warnock.
