Georgia Republican Senatorial candidate Herschel Walker on Tuesday said he expects to deliver a strong performance in the debate against Democratic incumbent Sen. Raphael Warnock.

Speaking to local outlet WALB's Madison Foglio, the former NFL running back struck an optimistic tone ahead of the Oct. 14 debate.

"I bet you Herschel Walker can hold his own," he said.

The race is in a statistical dead heat, with the RealClearPolitics polling average giving Warnock a 0.3% lead as of Tuesday evening.

Walker, who received the endorsement of former President Donald Trump, has rapidly narrowed the race since June in what was once a 10-point lead for Warnock. The contentious race is one of several pivotal contests likely to help shape the battle for the Senate during the November midterms.
