The White House celebrated two Supreme Court rulings on Thursday that paved the way for the administration to end temporary protected status (TPS) and limited eligibility to apply for asylum.

The first decision found that the president may end TPS without judicial review, while the second found that would-be asylum applicants are not eligible to apply until they have crossed the border.

“Today, the Supreme Court affirmed what President Trump has always maintained: temporary protected status is, by definition, temporary,” White House spokeswoman Abigail Jackson told The Hill. She further called both decisions a "tremendous win" for the administration.

More than 300,000 Haitians have received TPS and will be eligible for removal upon its expiration. The Haitian community faced considerable scrutiny during the 2024 presidential campaign, with President Donald Trump pointing to reports that the expat community in Ohio had been eating local pets.

Those claims were not confirmed.
