Peters, who was the Republican clerk of the western Colorado county during the 2020 election, was found guilty by a grand jury on seven charges related to election integrity.
Election integrity proponents won cases in Arizona, Georgia, Maryland, New York and Washington in March, ranging from a clash between state and federal regulations on voter roll information to non-citizens voting in New York City elections.
"The truth is that Michigan is not verifying citizenship," said election integrity advocate Patrice Johnson.
The Biden administration claimed the law was “Jim Crow 2.0.”
The lawsuit argues that the executive order is unconstitutional.
Trump’s order signed Tuesday said the patchwork of voting methods across the country can lead to basic chain-of-custody problems. The order was also critical of mass voting by mail.
Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear signed bill into law this week, similar to a new Wyoming law enacted earlier this month.
The DOJ lawsuit is regarding Senate Bill 202, an election integrity law that was enacted in 2021.
Many prominent Democrats still claim voter fraud is not a real issue unless they are on the losing side, in which case the elections were "stolen."
