AG Garland details Minneapolis Police report: MPD officers disregarded safety of people in custody

U.S. Attorney Merrick Garland held a press briefing Friday to announce the Justice Department’s findings after a two-year probe into the Minneapolis Police Department. Garland said Minneapolis police officers discharged firearms without first assessing a threat and failed to intervene to prevent “unreasonable use of force” by officer colleagues. The federal investigation began in April 2021, one day after former Minneapolis Police officer Derek Chauvin was convicted for the 2020 murder of George Floyd.
