At least 17 people were killed, and 73 were injured during protests in Juliaca, Peru, on Monday, January 9, according to a post on the Puno Regional Health Directorate Facebook page. Peru’s La Republica newspaper reported that protesters had taken to the streets to demand the closure of Congress, the resignation of President Dina Boluarte, new elections, and a change of constitution.
