At least 41 inmates killed in riot at Honduran women’s prison

A deadly riot at a women’s prison outside Tegucigalpa, Honduras Tuesday killed at least 41 inmates in an act of violence linked to gang activity and corruption. Julissa Villanueva, the head of the Honduran prison system, said the uprising started as a reaction to recent attempts by authorities to crack down on illegal operations within the prison. 25 women were burned to death and at least seven inmates were hospitalized for gunshot and knife wounds.
