Peru's Congress impeaches former President Castillo

Peru's Congress voted to impeach and remove Former Peruvian President Pedro Castillo from office Wednesday after Castillo announced he would temporarily dissolve Congress and made a call for Congressional elections to take place within nine months. Prior to his announcement, Castillo was scheduled to attend an impeachment hearing and vote against him in Congress. Castillo's successor will be Vice President Dina Boluarte, who will be sworn in and remain in office for the remainder of the term, until July 2026.
