Representative Nick Begich (R-AK) says recently released memos show the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) used taxpayer funds to influence foreign regimes rather than provide humanitarian assistance. “And when those funds are being misdirected and redirected, when agencies like this have lied to the taxpayer and obfuscated where those funds are going, they need substantial reform,” he says. “And I think putting USAID back under the State Department is a good first step.”
