After meeting with Ukraine President Zelensky and speaking with Russian President Putin by phone earlier on Sunday, President Trump said that they're "getting closer" to a peace agreement.

"We had a terrific meeting. We discussed a lot of things. As you know, I had an excellent phone call with President Putin," he said. I do think we're getting a lot closer, maybe very close."

Prior to the meeting, Trump said they are entering the "final stages" of peace talks.

The two met in Florida.

"We're going to see. Otherwise, it's going to go on for a long time," he said. "It will either end or it's going to go on for a long time and millions of additional people are going to be killed. Nobody wants that."

Prior to the meeting, Trump spoke with Putin and described the conversation as "very productive."

A reporter asked about security guarantees as the meeting with Zelensky began.

"What a stupid question," Trump said. "Nobody even knows what the security agreement is going to state. There will be a security agreement. It will be a strong agreement. The European nations are very much involved."

Trump said he thinks both Putin and Zelensky are serious about peace.
