The Canadian government says it will be implementing a 100% tariff on imports of Chinese-made electric vehicles.
The move was announced on Monday and follows similar U.S. tariffs on Chinese imports. In May, the Biden administration imposed a 100% tariff on EVs imported from China.
U.S. National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan met Sunday with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Cabinet ministers and reportedly raised the issue.
Sullivan is scheduled for his first visit to Beijing on Tuesday.
Trudeau said Canada will also implement a 25% tariff on Chinese steel and aluminum.
