Ex-Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan arrested by paramilitary troops
Khan said officials are trying to arrest him to stop him from campaigning.
Former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan on Tuesday was arrested in Islamabad by paramilitary troops on corruption charges.
Earlier that day, Khan tweeted that officials were trying to arrest him to prevent him from campaigning for reelection and to stop him from "mobilising the masses for street movement in support of Constitution" if government officials refuse to obey the country's Supreme Court, which ordered elections to be held in two provinces later this month.
The charges were brought against Khan, 72, by Pakistan's National Accountability Bureau, the country's anti-corruption agency, according to The Guardian.
Khan was ousted from his role as prime minister in April 2022.
