Thailand’s law allowing for same-sex marriages took effect Thursday, and hundreds of same-sex couples married.

The law makes Thailand the first Southeast Asian country to legalize gay marriage, according to CNN.

Thailand’s parliament passed the legislation last year, and it was endorsed by the Thailand’s king. Under the law, same-sex couples can marry and enjoy full legal, financial, medical, adoption and inheritance rights.

Bangkok Pride co-organized a mass-marriage event with local authorities, and at least 200 same-sex couples signed up to get married.
