Former China President Jiang Zemin, who oversaw the Asian nation's economic boom after the pro-democracy Tiananmen Square protests in 1989, died Wednesday. He was 96.

Jiang led the Chinese Communist Party from 1989 to 2002 and was president from 1993 to 2003.
