The White House said it is concerned about a report indicating the presence of a secret war drones project in China involving a Chinese company providing supporting to a Russian firm that has been sanctioned by the U.S.

A spokesperson for the National Security Council (NSC) said it is not clear if the People's Republic of China (PRC) was aware or involved in some way with the transactions between the Chinese company and Russian firm.

"The PRC government also has a responsibility to ensure its companies are not providing lethal assistance," the spokesperson said.

Reuters reported, based on sources, that Russia has "established a weapons program in China to develop and produce long-range attack drones for use in the war against Ukraine."

According to the Reuters report, the U.S. government is ready to take action against Chinese companies involved in the program.

The specific planned actions have not been disclosed.
