Brother of Canadian prime minister thinks Trudeau wasn't 'the one calling the plays' while in power
Trudeau announced Monday that he would be resigning as Canada's leader.
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's half brother Kyle Kemper said that his brother wasn't the one making political decisions during his term.
"I think he was basically handed a script to read, and ... he's kind of the quarterback," Kemper said on the "Just the News, No Noise" TV show. "He's not the one actually calling the plays."
Trudeau announced Monday that he would be resigning as Canada's leader.
Trudeau has led the Liberal Party of Canada since 2013 and the country since 2015. He will stay on as prime minister until a new leader is selected.
"Him resigning is like the quarterback retiring in this scenario....those calling the plays will still continue to call the plays," Kemper said.
Voters reelected Trudeau in 2021, but his party failed to win a majority of votes in Parliament. And he has since faced criticism from the Conservative opposition for some of his pandemic and post-pandemic policies.
Trudeau's popularity among voters began to decline as far back as November 2020, roughly nine months into the COVID-19 pandemic, according to a Canadian independent research-tracker poll from the Angus Reid Institute.
