Chinese foreign minister says Washington embassy is receiving bomb threats
Official says 'smears & hatred' from the U.S. have caused the threats
A top Chinese official said Wednesday that the country's embassy in Washington, D.C., is receiving bomb threats, a development the official attributed to U.S. antagonism.
"As a result of smears & hatred fanned up by the [U.S.] gov, the Chinese embassy has received [bomb] & [death threats]," Hua Chunying, the Foreign Ministry spokeswoman for the Chinese Communist Party, said in a tweet.
Chunying provided no evidence about the alleged threats and did not say to what exactly she was referring. Earlier in the day, the Trump administration announced that it had ordered the Chinese consulate in Houston to shut down in order to "protect American intellectual property," according to the Trump administration.
Chunying responded on Twitter by saying: "The [U.S.] should revoke its erroneous decision. China will surely react with firm [countermeasures]."
