Fuel protests intensified across Ireland on Saturday, disrupting transportation and leaving a growing number of service stations without supplies as demonstrators continued a fifth consecutive day of blockades.

Truck and tractor drivers maintained positions at key fuel infrastructure sites, including the country’s only refinery and several major depots, severely restricting distribution.

More than a third of the 1,500 service stations in the republic do not have fuel, according to the Associated Press. 

Fuels for Ireland chief executive Kevin McPartlan said the number of stations without fuel would likely increase.
