Liz Truss becomes new U.K. prime minister after meeting with Queen Elizabeth
Truss replaces Boris Johnson, who resigned this summer amid political scandals
Liz Truss on Tuesday became the United Kingdom's new prime minister after she met with Queen Elizabeth at Balmoral Castle in Scotland.
Truss replaces Boris Johnson, who resigned this summer after political scandals resulted in his Conservative Party pulling its support for him.
The party chose Truss with 57% of the vote.
Johnson resigned in July after multiple Cabinet members left their posts, in large part over the fallout from parties at his 10 Downing Street residence during COVID-19 lockdowns.
