Prince Philip, the consort and husband of the United Kingdoms Queen Elizabeth has died, according to several news reports Friday. He was 99.
His death was announced by Buckingham Palace, and officials said he passed away peacefully. Officials have yet to announce the prince's cause of death.
Philip, also known as the Duke of Edinburgh, had been hospitalized several times over the last couple of years, most recently in February.
Philip had served Queen Elizabeth as consort for 65 years before retiring from public life in 2017, according to NBC News.
Former President Donald Trump gave his condolences to Queen Elizabeth on Friday, saying both he and his wife Melania were honored to have had the opportunity to meet and visit with him over the last few years.
"We saw firsthand how the Monarchy epitomizes and carries on the virtues of the British People—and no one did so more than Prince Philip," Trump said in his statement. "This is an irreplaceable loss for Great Britain, and for all who hold dear our civilization."
