Queen guitarist Brian May receives a knighthood

Queen guitarist Brian May this week received a knighthood in the United Kingdom's annual New Year's Honors list and may now style himself as "Sir Brian May."

May received the knighthood as part of the first series of honors from King Charles III, who assumed the throne following the death of his mother, Queen Elizabeth II, earlier this year.

May has been an active campaigner for animal welfare in recent years.

The guitarist said he hoped the title would grant him "a little more clout," according to the Washington Times. "Maybe a few more people will listen to me than would otherwise, you know, if it’s Sir Brian on the phone."

The musician achieved fame beginning in the 1970s, alongside Queen front man Freddy Mercury, for their major hits such as "Bohemian Rhapsody," "Killer Queen," "We Will Rock You," and many others.

Former President Donald Trump often played "We Are the Champions" during campaign rallies.
