Russia missile attack on eastern Ukraine train station kills 50, injures over 100, authorities say

A rocket attack Friday on an Ukraine train station where civilians are trying to flee from the Russia invasion killed over 50 people, Ukrainian officials told news outlets. 

Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky said "thousands" of people were at the station in Kramatorsk, a city in the eastern Donetsk region, when it was hit by a missile, according to CNN. The strike also reportedly injured over 100 people.

Fox News reported Friday morning the station was hit by two missiles and that as many as 39 people were killed.

The incident is among the latest in which Ukraine civilians have being killed in the now roughly seven-week-long Russia invasion, which has resulted in accusations against Russia President Vladimir Putin of committing war crimes and resulting consequences.

The United Nations General Assembly voted Thursday to suspend member nation Russia from its Human Rights Council.

Zelensky posted on social media photos that showed a train car with smashed windows, abandoned luggage and bodies lying in what looked like an outdoor waiting area.

“The inhuman Russians are not changing their methods," Zelensky posted "This is an evil without limits. And if it is not punished, then it will never stop.”

After failing to take Ukraine’s capital, Russia has shifted its focus to the Donbas, Moscow-backed rebels have been fighting Ukrainian forces for eight years and control some areas, CNN also reports.
