Ukraine brings in the New Year amid renewed Russian bombardment
Russia's President Vladimir Putin signaled that his country would fight until victorious in a New Year's address.
Ukraine is bringing in the New Year as Russia bombards Kyiv and other parts of the country with dozens of missiles and Iranian-made drones, military officials said.
Ukraine's military said that "[i]nstead of New Year's fireworks," Russia deployed 45 Iranian-made kamikaze drones, all of which were shot down.
Russia's President Vladimir Putin signaled that his country would fight until victorious in a New Year's address.
"We will only go forward, win for the sake of our families and for the sake of Russia, for the sake of the future of our only, beloved Motherland!" Putin concluded his speech, as translated.
In Kyiv on New Year's Eve, sirens blared for more than 4 hours as some people shouted "Glory to Ukraine! Glory to heroes!" from their balconies, Reuters reported.
Russia has fired 31 missiles and 12 air strikes at Ukraine over the past 24 hours, killing at least one person in Kyiv, Ukrainian officials said Sunday.
Kremlin forces have launched intense missile attacks targeting vital infrastructure in Ukraine since October.
