The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugess (UNHCR) announced Wednesday that more than 10 million have fled their homes in Ukraine while an estimated 13 million remain stranded since Russia invaded last month.
"We are confronted with the realities of a massive humanitarian crisis that is growing by the second," the UNHCR tweeted.
More than 4 million refugees have fled Ukraine since Feb. 24, with the bulk of them – 2.3 million – going to neighboring Poland, according to the UN agency.
The UNHCR further highlights that 6.5 million people have been displaced within Ukraine, but have not fled yet.
An estimated 13 million people are "stranded in affected areas or unable to leave," according to the intergovernmental organization.
In order to deal with the influx of Ukrainian refugees to Poland, the UNHCR announced that it "welcomes applications to join a General Service roster for potential temporary appointments in Poland."
UNHCR Commissioner Filippo Grandi said he arrived in Ukraine on Wednesday and he plans on meeting with officials in Lviv to discuss how to "increase our support to people affected and displaced by this senseless war."
