At least five people were reportedly killed and at least 91 more wounded in a raid on the West Bank city of Jenin by Israeli soldiers on Monday,

The Associated Press reported the raid was the bloodiest in several years and resulted in the death of five Palestinians, with a dozen more in critical condition. Multiple Israeli troops are also said to have been injured.

The fight lasted for almost 10 hours. Israeli choppers launched rare airstrikes to assist a 7-soldier evacuation after a roadside explosive deployed by Palestinian militants disabled 5 armored cars and left Israeli troops stuck, according to Israeli military spokesman Lt. Col. Richard Hecht, who called the situation "very unusual and dramatic."

The Times of Israel quoted a joint statement between Border Police and Israeli Defense Forces, who said "During the activity, a massive exchange of fire took place between the forces and armed gunmen in the area. Large numbers of explosive devices were hurled at the forces. The forces responded with live fire."

Palestinian Authority President's spokesman Nabil Abu called the events a "massacre" despite it being initiated by Palsetine militants.
