Trump to meet with Colombian president over drug trafficking
Trump has previously suggested that Petro's government could face some form of crackdown if it failed to address the drug cartels.
President Donald Trump is planning to meet with Colombian President Gustavo Petro in February to discuss drug trafficking operations in the country.
The announcement comes in the wake of the U.S. extraction of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro to stand trial in New York over drug trafficking operations in his country.
"I look forward to having a meeting with Gustavo Petro, the President of Colombia, in the White House, during the first week of February," Trump posted on Truth Social. "I am sure it will work out very well for Colombia, and the U.S.A., but, cocaine and other drugs must be STOPPED from coming into the United States. Thank you for your attention to this matter!"
Trump has previously suggested that Petro's government could face some form of crackdown if it failed to address the drug cartels, which served as the casus belli for the Maduro operation and the ongoing naval blockade of Venezuela.
